About

The Center for Environmental Science and Technology (CEST) fosters interdisciplinary environmental research and education by providing cutting-edge analytical technologies needed to address national and international problems. The Center supports interdisciplinary environmental education, research, and stewardship through a variety of education and outreach activities.

A full-time technical support staff maintains the instruments and provides basic training on instrument use. Each year, dozens of researchers, including faculty, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and undergraduates use instrumentation at CEST to advance their scholarship as well as to assist with course work, independent studies, and REU programs.

The Center is unique in that University of Notre Dame faculty and students may use the instruments for class work and research without instrument-time charges.

Annually, the Center awards a number of graduate fellowships to support interdisciplinary research in environmental science and engineering. CEST also co-sponsors a variety of invited guest lectures on the environment and hosts student field trips from local junior high and high school programs, while serving as a resource for undergraduate analytical chemistry laboratories.
