Elementar UNICUBE

The Elementar UNICUBE elemental analyzer (EA) is a specialized gas chromatograph (GC), set up for detecting only permanent gases, measuring the product of catalysts facilitating combustion of organic samples into their constituent elements.
In solid samples, C-content is combusted into CO₂ gas and N-content is reduced to N₂ gas via a flash combustion reaction followed by reduction. The product gases are then separated by a temperature programmed desorption (TPD) column that prevents overlapping peaks. Finally, each element's content is determined by a thermal conductivity detector (TCD) for simultaneous measurements - percent and mg of C/N results; typically in less than 7 minutes per sample.
Our Filter package variant allows for analysis of larger samples and is specifically designed to get solid samples, including rolled (folded) Glass Fiber Filters (GFFs), into a gaseous state for carbon-to-nitrogen ratio analysis. The post-combustion ash content of samples (plant tissues vs. soils for example) can be a limit on sample throughput, which will be discussed thoroughly during training.
